Submit your manuscript
Manuscripts are submitted through the journal's editorial platform (Open Journal Systems). You need an account to submit and to follow the status of your manuscript.
Manuscript templates. Prepare your manuscript with the journal's template: it includes the format, the sections and guidance for the title, authors, abstract, figures, tables and references.
Guidelines
Submissions
Biotechnology and Life Sciences publishes original research in biotechnology, molecular biology and the life sciences. Manuscripts must be original, must not have been published previously and must not be under consideration by another journal.
The journal welcomes original research articles, review articles and short communications. Manuscripts should be written in English; authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to have their text checked by a fluent speaker before submission.
Manuscripts can be submitted as DOC, DOCX or LaTeX (.tex / .zip) files. Supplementary material can be uploaded as additional files. We recommend preparing the manuscript with the journal's Word or LaTeX template.
Manuscript structure
Original research articles should include the following sections, in this order: title; authors and affiliations; abstract; keywords; introduction; materials and methods; results; discussion; conclusions; declarations; and references.
Title, authors and affiliations
The title should be concise and informative. It is followed by the full names of all authors, their institutional affiliations (department, institution, city and country), the email address of the corresponding author and, where available, each author's ORCID iD.
Abstract
The abstract should not exceed 250 words and must be understandable on its own. It should briefly state the background and aim of the study, the methods, the main results and the conclusions, without references or undefined abbreviations.
Keywords
Provide between 3 and 6 keywords that describe the content of the article and do not simply repeat the title.
Introduction
The introduction should define the research problem, summarise the relevant literature and state the aim or hypothesis of the work.
Materials and methods
Describe the study design, materials, organisms or samples, procedures and statistical analysis in enough detail for the work to be reproduced. Indicate the manufacturer of relevant equipment and reagents and the software (with version) used for the analysis.
Results
Present the findings clearly and in a logical order, without repeating in the text all the data shown in tables and figures.
Discussion
Interpret the results, compare them with previous studies, explain the limitations of the work and suggest directions for future research.
Conclusions
Summarise the main conclusions that follow directly from the results.
Declarations
Include, where applicable: author contributions (for example, using the CRediT taxonomy), funding, conflicts of interest, data availability, the use of artificial intelligence tools in preparing the manuscript, and acknowledgements.
Figures and tables
Number figures and tables consecutively and cite each of them in the text. Tables have a title above them; figures have a caption below. Figures should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi and be legible in black and white; please also upload them as separate files.
Abbreviations and units
Define abbreviations and acronyms the first time they are used and use SI units throughout.
References
Use APA style (7th edition): author–year citations in the text and an alphabetical reference list at the end of the manuscript. Include the DOI whenever available. For example:
Surname, A. B., Surname, C. D., & Surname, E. (2025). Title of the article. Journal Name, 12(3), 45–67. https://doi.org/10.0000/xxxxx
Surname, A. B. (2024). Title of the book (2nd ed.). Publisher.
Authorship
All listed authors must have made a substantial contribution to the work, taken part in writing or revising the manuscript, approved the final version and agreed to be accountable for it. The corresponding author handles communication with the journal on behalf of all authors. Any change in authorship after submission requires the written agreement of all authors.
Originality and prior publication
By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original, that it has not been published elsewhere (except as a preprint, conference abstract or thesis) and that it is not under consideration by another journal. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any material that is not their own.
Conflicts of interest
Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationship that could be perceived as influencing their work. If there are none, please state: "The authors declare no conflicts of interest."
Research ethics
Studies involving human participants, animals or biological samples must state the ethics committee that approved them, the approval number and, where applicable, that informed consent was obtained, in accordance with the legal requirements of the country where the study was carried out.
Data availability
Authors are encouraged to make the data supporting their results available in an appropriate public repository or as supplementary material, and to include a data availability statement.
Peer review
Every submission is first assessed by the editorial team for its fit with the journal's scope and its overall quality. Manuscripts that pass this screening are sent to independent expert reviewers, who assess originality, scientific quality, methodology, clarity and relevance. After peer review, the editors make one of the following decisions: accept, minor revision, major revision or reject.
When submitting a revised manuscript, authors should include a point-by-point response to all the reviewers' comments explaining the changes made.
Open access
All articles are published in open access and can be read and downloaded free of charge from this website and from the journal's editorial platform.
How to submit

Before submitting, please check that the manuscript follows these guidelines and includes all the required sections and declarations.

Ethics
Biotechnology and Life Sciences is committed to the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Editors, authors and reviewers are expected to act with honesty, transparency and respect for the integrity of the scientific record.
Publication malpractice
The journal does not tolerate publication malpractice, including data fabrication or falsification, plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, inappropriate authorship and citation manipulation. Manuscripts involving malpractice will be rejected, and published articles may be corrected or retracted.
Plagiarism
Submitted manuscripts may be checked for similarity with previously published work. Text, data or ideas taken from other sources must always be properly cited.
Reviewers
Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential, declare any conflict of interest, and provide objective and constructive comments within the agreed time.
Corrections and retractions
If an error is found in a published article, the authors should contact the editorial office. Depending on its nature, the journal will publish a correction or, in serious cases, a retraction, following the COPE guidelines.
